2nd Annual Agricultural Research Abstracts,
“UP-SCALING AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH FOR IMPROVED LIVELIHOOD OF THE RESOURCE POOR”
These abstracts gives an overview of the outcomes emerged from the second Agricultural Research Review Workshop held at Bwawani Hotel (Roof Top Hall) on 20th and 21st October 2010. The main objective of the workshop was to review the research findings submitted by local and external agricultural scientists who did their researches in Zanzibar or other areas with similar agro-ecological situations and compiled them for a second AARRW proceeding. The report briefly describes the process with regards to the preparations and conveyance of the meeting. The workshop was organized and primarily funded by by the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources (MANR).
Thirty-six papers (oral and posters) categorized under 5 sub-themes, were presented for discussion. These are: (i) Crop production and protection; (ii) Agricultural economics and rural systems development; (iii) Livestock production and health; (iv) The environmental pollution and climate change; and (v) Fisheries, aquaculture and conservation practices. Eleven among the presented papers were screened further and put in this proceedings document. The major theme with this issue was “Up-Scaling Agricultural Research for Improved Livelihood of the Resource Poor”.
